A Landmark Commission: The First Sikh Artist at the Coutts Diwali Ball

diya, 2024 - Quartrait

Quartrait is proud to announce a historic milestone in British Asian art and culture. As one of the first Birtish Asian/Sikh artists commissioned to exhibit at the prestigious Coutts Diwali Ball, I unveiled Diya, 2024—an evocative, thought-provoking oil painting that intertwines tradition, power, and prosperity.
At the heart of this artwork is Diya, a poised Asian Godess holding a traditional clay lamp, also known as a diya. The flame from the lamp casts a gentle glow, its reflection captured in the eye of a majestic lion beside her. This interplay of light symbolises enlightenment, courage, and the enduring spirit of prosperity.
Elevating the painting’s opulence, Diya’s attire is adorned with handcrafted gold jewelry, featuring a harmonious blend of Rudraksha beads and 24-carat gold detailing. Each element has been meticulously designed to reflect both spiritual significance and aesthetic grandeur.
Embedded within the jewelry are fragments of ethically sourced gemstones, each representing one of the seven chakras: • Root (Muladhara): Red Garnet • Sacral (Swadhisthana): Carnelian • Solar Plexus (Manipura): Yellow Citrine • Heart (Anahata): Green Emerald • Sacral (Swadhisthana): Carnelian • Third Eye (Ajna): Lapis Lazuli • Crown (Sahasrara): Amethyst
These stones not only enhance the visual allure but also imbue the piece with layers of spiritual meaning, aligning with the energies they represent.
Dimensions and Medium • Oil paints on museum-grade canvas • A2 size (42 x 59.4 cm)
We are proud to announce that Diya, 2024 was acquired through a private bid for £50,000, reflecting its exceptional artistic value and cultural significance. This sale underscores the appreciation for artworks that honour and celebrate Asian heritage.

“Through this piece, I aim to convey that true prosperity arises when we align our inner light with the strength that resides deep within us.”
